Welcome to our Matrix How-To Series! In this post, we will be discussing common issues and solutions for optimizing your MVC-300 Vertical Form Fill Seal Bagger. This guide complements our instructional video, featuring Jessie Swisher, a Matrix service technician, who walks through some frequent troubleshooting steps for the Morpheus MVC vertical form fill seal bagger.
Product Timing
One of the most common issues with the Morpheus MVC bagger is product timing. Improper product timing can cause the product to drop into the jaws and get sealed, resulting in broken bags and product spillage. Here’s how to optimize product timing:
- Adjust Product Timing Settings:
- Go to the film pull setting and locate the product timing option.
- Start from the minimum setting, measured in times 10 milliseconds.
- Observe the product drop. If it lands at the tail end of the bag, incrementally increase the timing setting.
- Aim for a setting where the product lands perfectly in the bottom of the bag, avoiding the seal area.
- Incremental Adjustments:
- For example, increase the setting to 20 (200 milliseconds) and observe the product drop.
- Continue adjusting until the product consistently lands in the correct position within the bag.
Setting Up Film and Pull Belts
Proper positioning of the film pull belts is crucial for the efficient operation of the MVC-300. Follow these steps to set up the film and pull belts correctly:
- Turn Off Vacuum:
- Turn off the vacuums by twisting the dials, ensuring no vacuum pressure on the pull belts.
- Position the Film Pull Belts:
- Use the film pull tab to control the motors for the pull belts.
- Hit the open full button to open the pull belts.
- Jog each side separately, adjusting until there is slight back pressure when pulling the film downward.
- Ensure the film moves without friction. A credit card should slide through the gap between the pull belt and forming tube.
- Save Position Settings:
- Save the positions in the recipe for consistency.
Vertical Seal Bar Pressure
Proper pressure settings for the vertical seal bar are essential to avoid sealing issues. Here’s how to check and adjust:
- Check Pressure Settings:
- Navigate to the back seal tab and trigger the open/close button for the vertical seal bar.
- Verify the pressure setting (e.g., 0.15) and adjust if necessary.
Film Tension and Dancer Roller
Film tension is critical for maintaining smooth operation. Adjust the tension settings as follows:
- Adjust Weights and Springs:
- Move weights all the way to the end for maximum tension.
- Adjust springs to their farthest setting for adequate back pull.
- Set stopper screws to about a quarter-inch to allow proper movement of the dancer bar.
Pull Belt Tension
Ensuring the correct tension on the pull belts prevents slippage and misalignment:
- Adjust Tension:
- Use the black knobs to set the tension.
- Ensure there is no friction and the belts are running smoothly.
Alignment of the Back Seal
Proper alignment of the back seal is necessary for consistent sealing:
- Align Back Seal Bar:
- Open the back seal bar and align the film.
- Adjust the bar’s position until the band stops moving, indicating proper alignment.
By following these steps, you can optimize the performance of your MVC-300 Vertical Form Fill Seal Bagger, reducing downtime and improving productivity. For a detailed walkthrough, refer to our video guide featuring Jessie Swisher, where he demonstrates these troubleshooting techniques in action.
