Finding the right partner to move forward with was important to the long-term success of Coffee Support. Founded in January 2021, Coffee Support helps coffee shops of all sizes develop and package their own custom craft brands. The business is modeled after custom crush facilities for wine brands. A traditional custom crush can handle all aspects of wine making, from selection of grapes to fermentation to packaging for customers who don’t have the means to produce their own wine.
Coffee Support operates in a similar manner as it works closely with customers to develop their own unique craft blends for sale in coffee shops.
I would say if you’re looking for redundancy, you’re looking for quality, you’re looking for time efficiency for your staff, you’re looking for programmability all the key things that are needed in the manufacturing world I cannot recommend Matrix high enough.

NARRATOR:
While performance is an important factor to consider when selecting a new bagging machine, you also need to review the brand, as well as, its level of customer service. It was these factors and more that led Coffee Support to choose two Mercury vertical form fill seal machines from Matrix to fill its pillow packs for customers. Founded in 2021, Phoenix AZ based Coffee Support helps coffee shops of all sizes develop and package their own custom craft brands.
JASON KYLE:
Coffee Support is a one stop shop for all the elements of producing coffee. Whether you’re looking for sourcing grain or roasting cold brew for that matter, we can ala carte a lot of services in that line of production that a lot of companies either don’t have the time or capital to spend on a facility. We’re really presented as an extension of your business without complicating the branding of your business.
NARRATOR:
Coffee Support discovered Matrix while attending Pack Expo in Las Vegas. Turns out the company had purchased a bagger from a different supplier, but was experiencing challenges in customer support. After their meeting with Matrix, Coffee Support was confident they had found their new partner.
BURKE HODGE:
Three things that stand out for me are #1 we were not sold anything. We were given an education on products that were relevant to what we were looking for and we were consulted with quality information on what the machines should be doing and what they shouldn’t be doing. We also were greeted by a great staff which was a key indicator for us that from a service side, we could expect that same flow down from the folks at the show as the sales guys and the third piece to that was that the equipment had been around for many, many years and it just felt like a really, really good fit from the way that we run our business and the way that Matrix obviously has been running theirs for years.
NARRATOR:
The Mercury is a high speed filling machine capable of producing up to 140 bags per minute. The machine comes with a stainless steel frame in a small footprint and NEMA 4X electrical enclosure. It can produce bag widths from 2 inches to 11 inches and bag lengths from 3 inches to 15 inches on a single pole. Controlling the machine is an Allen Bradley micrologix PLC system with a 7 inch color touch screen.
SPENCER JOHNSON:
In this particular application, the Matrix Mercury is a great fit because of its low footprint. It’s easy to use. It’s intuitive. It’s easy to change over, so for a contract manufacturer like we’re at today can switch from product to product very quickly and they can get up nd running in almost no time at a very high speed.
ALEX MASON:
The two Mercuries were really easy to get set up. For us, our biggest challenge in coffee is the difference in densities for every roast. So when we’re working with the packaging piece of equipment we can’t run by volume, we have to run by weight, but the Mercury in the way they’re set up make it really easy to dial that weight in quickly and it’s really consistent.
NARRATOR:
The two Mercuries were installed about a month after Pack Expo. One machine operates about 9 hours a day five days a week producing 2.5 and three ounce pillow packs at a rate of about 65 bags per minute. The other machine is set up to run larger five or eight ounce packs when orders dictate.
JOHNSON:
So that’s another big differentiator in Matrix to the competition is that we’re not just here to sell you a machine and kind of move on to the next one we’re really here to build a long term partnership with our customer base. It’s not about how good the machine is when you first get it, it’s when you need help where is that company to help keep you going?
HODGE:
I would say if you’re looking for redundancy, you’re looking for quality, you’re looking for time efficiency for your staff, you’re looking for programmability all the key things that are needed in the manufacturing world I cannot recommend Matrix high enough.
